Dedication of the Tribal Nation Flags

The Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum is honored to invite you to a Tribal Blessing Ceremonycelebrating the installation and dedication of the flags representing Minnesota's 11 Tribal Nations.

Welcome

  • Welcome and opening remarks by Randal Dietrich, Executive Director, Minnesota Military and Veterans Museum

  • Recognition of the significance of honoring Minnesota's Tribal Nations within the Museum

  • Remarks from Great River Energy, whose generous sponsorship made the Tribal Nation flag display possible

Tribal Blessing Ceremony
Led by Billie DeFoe, Tribal Veterans Service Officer for the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, U.S. Navy Veteran, and Museum Board Member.

The ceremony will include traditional cultural elements as determined by Billie DeFoe and participating Tribal representatives. If appropriate within their traditions, the ceremony may include a traditional prayer, remarks from Tribal leaders or elders, a drum performance or honor song, and other customary blessings.

Flag Dedication
Representatives of Minnesota's Tribal Nations will be invited to carry their respective flags from the outdoor display into the museum, where they will be placed in their permanent location as a lasting symbol of recognition, respect, and partnership.

If appropriate within Tribal traditions, the ceremony may conclude with a traditional blessing of the museum, the flags, and those gathered.

Reception

Immediately following the ceremony, guests are invited to join us for a reception hosted by Great River Energy.

Museum Classroom

Light hors d'oeuvres, refreshments, coffee, water, and soft drinks will be served.
