Docent Volunteering
Interested in volunteering your time as a docent? Fill out the secure form. We can't wait to hear from you!
The Museum staff and board of directors are seeking a dedicated corps of volunteer docents to welcome guests to our new 40,000 square foot facility on 30-acres.
Docents are committed to deepening our guests' awareness of & appreciation for the service rendered by Minnesota veterans stretching all the way back to the Civil War.
We personally recruit & develop those we feel could serve as exceptional docents and hold their rigorous role in high regard.
While some docents might be on-site several days a week, all are asked to serve not less than one day per quarter. Summer weekends will be our period of greatest need.
Docents may be asked to:
Engage guests on their specific interests or reason for visiting
Facilitate connection to museum staff or access to the collections
Share details about museum programs and services
Add greater context to museum gallery content
Help fulfill special requests of guests
Conduct guest surveys
Docents are afforded the following:
Exclusive opportunities to meet with decorated veterans & distinguished historians
Annual Museum Membership (with attendant discounts)
Overnight billeting on-post (as needed)
Access to private library / lounge
One-on-one & group instruction
Attire & business cards
Meal & travel stipend
Annual retreat / trip
Pre-shift briefings
Study materials
Our Docent Coordinator is Buddy Winn.
Our Honorary Docent #1 is WWII veteran Don Halverson.
